Backwaters @ Chunnambar
If you are looking for a perfect picnic
spot and if you have exhausted all your options in Chennai, then
Chunnambar might be just right for you.
Chunnambar is one place where you can
go rowing,
trekking, fishing and loads more! This lovely beach resort is
located in Ariyankuppam, 7 kilometres from Pondicherry,
on route to Cuddalore. So you could just pack yourselves and your
loved one(s) into your car and just zip away on East Coast Road and
reach Chunnambar just in time for a gentle snooze.
The place doesn't lack anything when
it comes to scenic beauty. On one side, there are the calm
backwaters and on the other, a long sea shore aptly named Plage
Paradiso!
The resort has a fully functional
water sports
centre and has a breathtaking pool amidst the backwaters. Floats and
swimming coach are all that you need to help you have one helluva
time on water! Or, you could also choose to go kayaking.
If speeding boats are your thing,
then there are the motor boats that take you to the mouth of the
backwater and the beach. As if that isn't enough, there are the
hydro plans which amount to huge amount of fun!

Plage Paradiso is located near the mouth
of the
backwaters.  This is the ideal place for sun bathing as well as a
round of beach volley ball. Volley balls, nets and even beach
umbrellas and fishing rods are available at the resort - so you can
chill out.
The resort does its fair bit to
promote eco-tourism also. There are three tree top
houses in Chunnambar which are an absolute delight to nature lovers.
One can sit here and read a book, paint, listen to music or even
stay overnight! One of the tree-houses, Sunrise Panorama, is a two-storey
tree house and gives unrestricted view of the backwaters. Another,
Palm house, overlooks the artificial pond and park. The third, Nest
Bird has a rope ladder that leads to a small balcony - which would
thrill the adventure folks!
The resort also has a multi-cuisine
restaurant
called Seagulls, which specialises in Tandoori and Chinese food. So
you can stop worrying about packing lunch! They are so cool that
they even serve food in the small huts which are placed just outside
the restaurant. In fact, you could order a picnic lunch and take it
right to the beach!
