The
TTF and OTM Travel and Tourism Fair is being in Chennai from 28th
February to 1st March 2004 at the Rani Meyyammai & Raja Muthiah
Halls.
The 37th Travel
& Tourism Fair and Overseas Travel Mart (TTF & OTM) was
inaugurated today by Ghulam Ahmed Mir, Jammu & Kashmir, at the
Rani Meyyammai & Raja Muthiah Halls.
The three-day event
has 100 participants from four countries and 12 states. Malaysia is
participating in a big way, with a contingent of private travel
trade, all out to woo the outbound Chennaites. The Nepal Tourism
Board has come along with Royal Nepal Airlines, and some private
sector operators from Nepal. The other countries represented include
Switzerland and Thailand.
There
is big participation from Jammu & Kashmir, with a jumbo
delegation comprising the various travel and hospitality
associations, and led by the Minister of State, Ghulam Ahmed Mir.
With the return of normalcy, there has been an upsurge in tourists
to the valley, and the J & K Tourism is here tq aggressively
target South India.
The other state
tourism departments participating in a big way are Andhra Pradesh,
Chandigarh, Garhwal Mandal, Kumaon Mandal, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal
Pradesh, Kerala, Goa, Karnataka and Tamilnadu, the host State.
Karnataka Tourism
has a sizeable presence including private operators. They are also
organizing a road show for the travel trade and media which will
have the presence of their Tourism Minister J Alexander and all the
top officials of the Department of Tourism.
The
Indian railways stall will offer the unique service of online ticket
reservation from their counter itself. Over all, there are over 100
participants showing an increase from around 75 in the last edition.
TTF is being
supported by the Department of Tourism, Government of India, who
have been participating at all the locations, carrying their promise
of Incredible India to the domestic tourists.
TTF & OTM is
India's oldest and biggest travel show. It is organized annually in
all major cities. TTF Chennai is the concluding show of the TTF 2004
Series that began with New Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore.
More than 15,000
general and 2,000 trade visitors are expected to mark their presence
in the one-of-its kind tourism extravaganza.
