London Blue Topaz is the darkest of the Blue Topazes and makes an excellent substitute for the more costly Blue Sapphire. In ancient times, just about any stone was likely to be called a Topaz. It is thought that the word Topaz is either derived from the Sanskrit word 'tapas' meaning fire or 'topazioz', a Greek word meaning to guess.

Tradition has it that Topaz helped foretell the future, enhanced sexual energy and promoted harmony. It aids in bringing forth your leadership qualities and enables you to grasp control of any situation you confront in life. It was believed to prevent colds and tuberculosis because of its ability to give additional strength to the breathing mechanics of the body."
