Blue is beautiful. It is the colour of the sky, it is the colour of the sea. Blue is associated with positive energy and it is believed that envisioning the
colour blue in the mind will fill one with energy.
Blue is also a tranquil and peaceful colour, and its various shades are used in clothes, shoes, furnishings, jewellery et al.
So it is not surprising that the invaluable blue sapphire is one of the most sought after stones. Set in the centre of a queen's tiara or a commoner's ring, the sapphire stands out among all the gem stones. In India, the best sapphires come from Kashmir and are called 'mayur neelam', peacock blue. The stone's most important quality is that it does not change colour in electric light. An auspicious sapphire should be brilliant and radiant, transparent, soft to the touch and give off rays from within. The blue sapphire is said to suit all temperaments.
Sani or Saturn represents longevity, discipline, authority, ambition, leadership, honesty, perfection, humility, elders, denial, delays, misery, adversity, accidents, conservatism and dutifulness. Its role is often symbolized as a servant. Its influence is often seen as restrictive or obstructive, yet its influence also seeks to bring balance. Its influences may be harmonized by the blue sapphire.
Sani is furthest from the Sun. Sani or Saturn in the human physiology is expressed through the activities of the putamen. The putamen, like Sani in the solar system, is placed at the outer edge of the basal ganglia. Its influence, like Sani, is that of a servant. It receives major input and instructions that it transmits to the basal ganglia.
Very often people with adverse "Sani" in their horoscopes are advised to wear a blue sapphire.
Even apart from all these beliefs, the stone is a beauty in itself.
