| Mehta Jewellery gets ISO certification
Mehta Jewellery, a leading platinum, diamond, gold and silver (design, manufacture & supply) house, has become the first jewellery house in Chennai to get the ISO 9001:2000 certification. This is the result of a process approach to improving the effectiveness of a quality management system to enhance customer satisfaction, by meeting customer requirements.
The ISO 9001 certification process assesses continuing process efficiencies through all stages of design, manufacture and sale.
Assessment areas include the quality management system (includes control of documents and records); management responsibility (includes commitment to quality policy and customer focus); resource management (includes HR issues); product realization (includes customer-related processes, design purchasing and production/service); measurement analysis & improvement (includes audits, data analysis, corrective action procedures, continual improvement).
Gurvinder Chopra, BSI, the certifying agency for ISO, presented the certificate to Surendra Mehta, Founder, Mehta Jewellery, in Chennai on October 7.
Explaining the relevance of the ISO certification, Tushar Mehta, Trustee, Mehta Jewellery said, "We are gradually seeing the democratization of diamonds. More people are buying jewellery today, and it is no longer restricted to the affluent few. As family businesses expand to cater to growing demand, there is need to adopt modern day business processes which will ensure consistent delivery of product, quality and customer satisfaction."
Added Naresh Mehta, Trustee, Mehta Jewellery, "Mehta Jewellery has a proud heritage in jewellery. The recently adopted processes will help us build on our traditional strengths, and result in a stronger brand."

As part of its process approach, Mehta Jewellery conducted a series of product and customer focused training programmes for their staff, with a view to meeting set benchmarks of customer engagement.
Abhay Mehta, Trustee, Mehta Jewellery said, "The ISO 9001 certification endorses the systems we now have in place, which will ensure predictabilty of each outcome, to the desired high quality standard. This will enable our objectives of expanding our relationships with existing customers and broadening our customer base to include people new customers, within the next 12 months."
