The Chennai-based Vestas RRB India Ltd
(Vestas RRB), one of the world's leading manufacturers of wind
turbines, announced in Chennai their expansion plans into the North
American wind energy market by exporting WEGs to Canada. Prior to
this, Vestas RRB was exporting WEGs to Sweden.
Speaking on the occasion, Sarvesh
Kumar, deputy managing director, Vestas RRB India Ltd, said, "Vestas
RRB has an ambitious plan to tap the export market during the coming
years. We are proud to establish our footprints in this rapidly
evolving Canadian market and plan to make further inroads into the
US market by leveraging on our engineering and quality expertise".
"With total wind power capacity of
1,451 MW by the end of 2006, Canada is emerging as one of the
potential markets for wind power generation," said Jean-Pierre
Hamel, Consul & Trade Commissioner of Canada.
"New entrants in the market will
give us a upper hand to tap into the potential of wind energy and we
congratulate Vestas RRB for its commitment to deliver wind turbines
of high standards," he added.
The Canadian wind energy industry
is experiencing remarkable growth. It has begun to move from the
margins to the mainstream of economic activity. The Canadian
government has taken important steps to facilitate wind energy
deployment and have now set targets that will see Canada's installed
wind capacity increase by at least six-fold in the next eight years.
Vestas RRB is in an advanced phase
of commissioning its new WEG blades and controllers facility
established at Poonamallee Bypass Road, Chennai. With lower cost and
a very highly skilled project management capability, Vestas RRB aims
to become a global leader of the wind energy sector within the next
two years.
Merrill Lynch, one of the world's
leading wealth management companies, recently invested about $ 55
million in the company to set up new manufacturing facilities at
Chennai and New Delhi and also for infrastructure development for
wind farms.
Vestas was incorporated in 1987. It
is an ISO 9001:2000 and 14001:2004 certified Company. Vestas is also
an independent power producer having established wind farms of
aggregate mw capacity. Hundreds of megawatts of wind power capacity
based on different sizes of WEGs produced and installed for a number
of clients by Vestas RRB are operating successfully at numerous
locations in various states of India.
