Youngsters should think out of the box-Sibal Technology

Science is the ultimate problem solver. Right from agriculture to diseases and to global warming, problems could be solved only by science. If we want to be the leaders in the 21st century, children should concentrate on professions that render solutions to the several problems mankind faces. Children and youngsters are the creators of knowledge and wealth.

Kapil Sibal, Minister for Science and Technology and Earth Sciences, Government of India, said this while inaugurating the ocean gallery at Periyar Science and Technology Centre, Chennai. The function was jointly organised by the National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT), Chennai and Tamil Nadu Science and Technology Centre, Chennai.

“The Union Ministry for Science and Technology and Earth Sciences has requested the Tamil Nadu Government to allot 250 acres of land in sea front for setting up a research facility”, the Minister said. Children should choose a profession, which they would enjoy. “If you enjoy what you are doing, you will be successful”, he said. He focused on the importance of Science and said, “Students should question the hypothesis and think out of the box. That is the way to look forward”.

P. S. Goel, Secretary to Government of India, Ministry of Earth Sciences and Chairman, NIOT Governing Council, said, “Children have to develop a temperament for Science. Each and every aspect of us reflects Science”.

K. Ganesan, I.A.S, Secretary to Government of Tamil Nadu, Department of Higher Education, requested the Minister to sponsor Rs 50 to 100 crore for Tamil Nadu Science and Technology Centre in order to improve the facilities. But, the Minister said that the Science centre and Museum fall under the Ministry of Education and Culture respectively, but, would pass on the message to the concerned Ministries.

Kapil Sibal also distributed prizes for the winners of the various competitions conducted by the Tamil Nadu Science and Technology Centre.

Ocean Gallery at Periyar Science and Technology Centre is set up to create awareness on the importance of the ocean and to provide generic information on it.
