At the graduation day of the 100th
Batch of Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Course of Hindustan
Institute of Engineering Technology, Mr K S Balasubramaniam,
Director of Airworthiness, Director General of Civil Aviation,
Chennai declared that aircraft maintenance engineers are in great
demand, following the unprecedented boom in the aviation industry.
In this graduation day where a record number of 50 aircraft
maintenance engineers passed out, Mr Balasubramaniam further
declared that this demand was felt right across the globe : and with
the Indian aircraft maintenance engineers recognized for their
technical capabilities, the whole globe was literally open for job
opportunities, he opined. Leading lights from prestigious academic
institutions, aerospace engineering and aviation industry
participated in this ceremony.
Earlier welcoming the gathering,
Mrs Elizabeth Verghese, Chairperson, Hindustan Group of Institutions
stated that the late founder Dr KCG Verghese’s vision with regard to
a liberalized aviation industry had actually materialized, a
substantial part during his own lifetime. “This vision had led our
late Founder to establish a world-class aircraft maintenance
engineering institution way back in the 1960s.
Felicitating the graduates, Dr N S
Venkatraman, formerly Director, Madras Institute of Technology and
an aeronautical specialist himself, spoke of the very high regard
Indian aircraft maintenance engineers enjoyed with the airlines from
developed countries.Competency, commitment and concern for air
safety are prime reasons for this popularity and aircraft
maintenance was one stream which had done India proud, long before
Information Technology showcased India’s technical prowess” he
observed.
Mr Anand Jacob Verghese, Director,
Hindustan Group of Institutions spoke of the love the late Founder
had for aircraft maintenance engineering. “Aviation and automotive
industry were the two subjects that breathed life into our late
Founder. And Dr KCG Verghese had played significant roles in both
the industries. He was instrumental in the process that would
eventually lead to the dismantling of the control regime in the
automotive industry.
