TCS opens GICC in Chennai
IT major Tata Consultancy Services has launched its remote-managed infrastructure solution and BPO solution centre in Chennai with an investment of Rs 45 crore, its third such dedicated facility after Bangalore and Budapest (Hungary).
The facility has a capacity to accommodate over 5,000 persons (2,500-seats), said N Chandrasekaran, executive vice-president,
TCS.
The Global Infrastructure Command Centre (GICC) will provide a "single window view" to clients on all TCS infrastructure offerings and the Chennai centre will help the company service its top clients, Chandrasekaran added.
"The centre is in line with the strategic growth plan of TCS," he pointed out. Six out of its top 10 customers are serviced out of Chennai. The new centre will help in servicing these clients in a better way, he added, after inaugurating the facility.
Chandrasekaran said the company has identified five key growth areas viz., consulting, BPO, engineering and industrial resources, products and assets solution and remote management of infrastructure for growth. "We are hopeful that each of these segments contributes to $ 50-200 million to the revenues.
"The centre, on an area of 250,000 sq.ft area, will start with 300 people in the next few weeks and in the next 6-12 months, associates in TCS' other centres in Chennai would be moved to the new facility," P R Krishnan, vice-president, head of infrastructure service practice, TCS, said.
