Karthik throwing tantrums?
 It is not the first time that Karthik has been
involved in a controversy during the shooting of a film. The star is moody, and given to
star tantrums. Producer Sreenivasan got a taste of this recently. Sreenivasan is producing
a film titled ‘Athai Magan’ for his banner Shivasri pictures. Directed by Sunder
C. the films had its launch a year and a half ago. Beset with various problems it had
again re-started its shooting recently, at Ooty. The crew left for Ooty for the schedule,
accompanied by hero Karthik. But when the producer visited the location, he was shocked to
see that no shooting was taking place anywhere. Instead Sunder C. was found playing
cricket with some unit members. The producer was extremely upset, as he had arranged the
finance with great difficulty. He was already in great debt due to the delay of his
production, and here was his director playing games. When the producer questioned Sunder
on his irresponsible behaviour, the director calmly replied - that they had arrived at the
shooting spot as scheduled at ten in the morning; that they had waited till four in the
evening for their hero to arrive; but that Karthik had not turned up.
A visibly agitated producer hurried to the hotel room where his hero was put up. And what
he found was Karthik relaxing on his bed apparently oblivious of the goings on. When the
producer demanded whether it was fair on Karthik’s part to behave thus, the hero is
said to have replied that he had stomach ache. That he would definitely be shooting the
next day. But the next day too found Karthik in his bed with the same stomach ailment. The
shooting was cancelled again. And then the hero suddenly left Ooty for
Chennai, reportedly
for medical treatment. With no hero around, the shooting had to be cancelled. While the
producer is upset with his hero, unit members say that it was all a pretense on the part
of Karthik. The act was only to teach a lesson to Sreenivasan. For, Sreenivasan has often
played hokey with many artistes and technicians and got away with it. And Karthik had
wanted to get back at him. Whose version should one believe? Who is the real culprit here,
Karthik or Sreenivasan? Whatever the real facts, it is just another instance of
non-professionalism in the film industry.
