Bike Puranam - 2
Every Yo guy isn’t that rich to buy
bikes more than 50k. So, the best option would be to have a combination of style and economy, and that’s available in the less than 50k bikes in the market.
Options available...
'Smile Smile Keep Smiling every hour...' - TVS Victor
A big hit with the Chennai public because of its good mileage and not-bad looks. The Victor endures long runs and keeps on going. Most Victor-owners have kept smiling!
'Hoodibabaaaaaa' - Kawasaki-Bajaj Caliber 115
When this Caliber 115 was launched, it was met with apprehension. But, the ads were a huge success and so was the bike. Even 5-year-olds have started telling their parents that they want a ‘Hoodibaba’ when they grow up. Such is the power of advertising and marketing!
'Stability stability and stability' - Hero Honda Splendor
Experts term it the best bike to have ever plied on an Indian road. Its advantages are many - good mileage, handsome after-sales service, it endures long runs, is economical; almost everything’s good about it. The newly released Splendor+ did have added features, but whether it will achieve what Splendor did is a question.

'Ignite My....' - Hero Honda Passion
A good bike. Steadiness, fuel efficiency and good colour combinations. Passion+ it is now.
'Bike trouble’ - Kinetic
All bikes from the Kinetic stable, Boss, GF125 etc., have had a dismal response. This may be because many believe that its after-sales service is not so good. Newly-made Laser, GF175 are on the cards; maybe that will be a boost to Kinetic.
'Burning Bright and Fierce' - TVS Fiero
The original version of the Fiero was a symbol of raw power and audacity. The next version, that came as Fiero F2, fine-tuned the rawness and that became a disadvantage. Otherwise, a nice bike.
Bikes that have had a not-bad-not-good response were Wind 125, Ambition, CD-Dawn, Byke and many others. Next week, let’s see what gear-less bikes are up for grabs in the market.
