Superstarspeak

An eternally-wailing baby in the ballroom of Taj Connemara stopped crying. There were 'shhhhs' everywhere, and had a pin been dropped, it would have made as much sound as a pan being dropped. The microphone was handed over to the speaker; a smile lit his face and two hundred hearts leapt in joy.

Superstar Rajinikant was the speaker.

The 'surprise' chief guest at the 200th day celebrations of the Vijay-starrer 'Gilli' made some pertinent points about a wide range of issues, and delighted the audience and actors alike. Here's some parts from his speech...

The initial wariness
Everybody present here, vanakkam. This place looks like some kind of a pooja. Initially, I had decided not to talk but after seeing the crowd here, I changed my mind.

Full praise for Dharani

Prakashraj told me that the way director Dharani narrated the story was excellent. The Telugu version, 'Okkadu', was a hit, and to do its remake suited for the Tamil audience is not an easy task. Hats off to Dharani.

On 'Ilaya Thalapathy'

Vijay said his 'Sachien' was getting released on the same day my 'Chandramukhi' was scheduled for release (April 14). There were a lot of rumours and reports that I don't like Vijay, etc. Let me tell you, Vijay is always my fan, and I am always his admirer." Vijay performed very well in 'Gilli'. I saw some scenes of 'Tirupaachi'. His dialogue delivery in that movie was excellent.

On the clad-in-red ravishing Trisha Some people look good when they laugh. For Trisha, it is as if her eyes laugh. There's something in her eyes. A beautiful and attractive girl.

On the present crop of heroes

Seeing actors like Vijay and Vikram now reminds me of Kamal Haasan and me in the '70s and '80s.

On movies, and some moral lessons

Only if a student writes an exam well will he pass it. Similarly, if a good subject is taken, the movie will become a hit.

Everybody should earn, and we should earn too. A beggar receives money from persons who give with a good heart. When you earn by proper means, the money will stay with you...

Spoken like a true Superstar.
