Ajay Nambhoodri in guru’s footsteps

Ajay Nambhoodri, a worthy disciple of Neyveli Santhanagopalan, is a budding artiste belonging to a good school. His alapana of Nattai, at the music festival organized at the 32 ft Anjaneya temple in Nanganallur, was zestful and flawless. Though a little off tune sometimes, he was able to convey his thoughts musically.

In the ghana raga Nattai Nine Nera he was able to portray the nuances of the raga deftly. A barrage of swaras proved his hard work.

In the following Karaharapriya alapana one could discern the stamp of his guru. His rigorous training and dedication has made him explore the raga with finesse. The song ‘Madhura Madhura Madhuram Sriramanamam’ was smooth and serene. His nerava and swaras pulsated with energy. Ajay laid accent on sowhkyam and bhavam.

A lilting bhajan in Madhuvanthi made the rasikas swim in the ocean of soothing music. The concluding piece, the famous Sanskrit verse ‘Sruti Smriti Puranam’ had all the ingredients of piety and devotion.

Karaikal Venkatasubramaniam on the violin bears the stamp of T N Krishnan patanthra. A sishya of T N Krishnan he played exquisite phrases. Delhi Sairam on the mridangam should concentrate on melody and harmony. Nanganallur Swaminathan on the ghatam lent considerable support.
