Accompanied by Mysore Manjunath on the violin, Srimushnam Rajarao on the mridangam and Trichy Murali on the ghatam, O S Thyagarajan regaled the audience at Bharath Kalachar with a haunting vocal performance.
He started his concert with ‘Viribhoni’ a Bhairavi Ata tala Varnam followed by the popular ‘Balakanaka Maya’ in Atana by Tyagaraja. His immaculate delivery and chaste diction was captivating.
OST concentrated mainly on Tyagaraja kritis. His rendition of ‘Neenenthuvedhakudhura’ in Harikamboji was mellow and full of aesthetic inputs. The long swara session was replete with artistic excellence.
‘Theerathiekaradha’ in Gowlipanthu was full of bhava and sowkhyam. OST’s Mohana raga version was classic. ‘Nannupalimpa’, a Tyagaraga kriti, was a genuine exercise on melodious music and the Neraval of ‘Karamunasara’ and the subsequent swaras were Spartan and elegant.
‘Durmaga’ in Ranjani was embellished with mind-boggling
swaras.
Mysore Manjunath on the violin was mesmerising with exquisite style. Srimushnam Rajarao on the mridangam was at the helm of the percussion department. His soft beats on the mridangam were beyond description. Trichy Murali on the ghatam played with depth and power. Their tani was garnished with an interesting mix of patterns.
