Review of 'Sitaron Mein Tu Hi'

Music: Jatin
Lyrics: Mehboob

What is great about this man is that inspite of growing old his voice remains the same. Yesudas is now over 60 but his voice still retains the same sweetness from the time he first started singing.

This is his first album in a long, long time and all his fans are sure to welcome it. Jatin has composed the songs keeping in mind the soft voice of Yesudas and the romantic mood of the album.

The songs in the album can be broadly divided as conveying two emotions: some songs have the singer describing the beauty of his lover and the others are about the pain of separation.

The first song 'Chamak cham' has a folkish feel to it. In the song, the singer compares his lover to the stars that adorn the sky. In 'Sajni', he describes the beautiful walk of his lover that she practically walks her way into his heart. 'Man mohini' and 'Sanwali Saloni' also describe her beauty, though the lyrics of the latter reminds one of the song `Teri bindiya re' from the movie 'Abhimaan'.

'Ishq mushq' says that nobody can hide the fact that he/she is in love. It is practically impossible as his/her moods will make it obvious for the whole world to look up and take notice.

In 'Tu jaan hai', the singer tells his lover that she means everything in his life and even exhorts her to test his love if she doesn't believe him.

'Door humse' is one of the best songs in the album and has rightfully been given prominence in the promos. In this, the singer tells his lover that how much ever she tries, she won't be able to keep away from him. Inspite of all her attempts, one day she will have to return to his arms just as spring leaves a garden only to return later.

'Tujhse bichad ke' is another good song, and the singer says that the only wealth he has earned after falling in love and separating from his lover are - memories, tears and loneliness.

In 'Itna bhi', he requests her not to get angry with him for teasing her, while in `Dosti' he says that he spends every waking moment thinking about her.

Though all the songs are soft on the ears, there is nothing much to say for the music as the score for one song does not sound much different from the other. Moreover, the album could have been packaged better and the songs organised in a better order. For just after a song which describes the beauty of his lover, the singer lapses into a sad song. Might be the
producer could have taken a tip or two from Gulzar's `Sunset Point' which was presented very well.
