Music review of Raju Chacha

Director: Anil Devgan
Music: Jatin-Lalit
Lyrics: Anand Bakshi

`Raju Chacha' is a prime example of what a movie could have been but for the director who wanted it to be a complete family entertainer and ended up making the movie a mishmash of many things. Not that it is not watchable or enjoyable, but one surely harbours the feeling that the movie could have been better. The same can be said of the music too. Jatin-Lalit, who had earlier scored the music for Ajay Devgan's `Pyaar to Hona Hi Tha', could have done much better.

The movie is an Indian version of `The Sound of Music' and `Home Alone'. If only the music of `Raju Chacha' was comparable to that of `The Sound of Music'... it would have been heavenly.

The first song is a real gem but the same can't be said of the others in the album. `Tune mujhe pehchaana nahin' by Shaan has a very pop feel to it and is accompanied by guitar riffs. This is the first time Shaan is singing for Ajay and he acquits himself well.

`Yeh Vaada Hai', by Kumar Sanu and Alka Yagnik, has been sung very well but sounds very familiar. Amit Kumar comes out of hibernation to sing `Dil Dil' - a nice ballad. High time Bollywood music directors gave him his due.

`Ek Sher Tha Ek Sherni', by Shankar Mahadevan, Shweta and Ishwari, narrates a story and is meant for children. `Kahin se aai rani, kahin se aaya raja', by Amit Kumar, Kavita Krishnamurthy, Shweta, Shraddha and Ishwari, is again a song for the kids.

Alka Yagnik impresses with the sad version of `Yeh Vaada Hai'. `Aaj ka kya program hai' has been sung by Abhijeet, Kavita Krishnamurthy, Sudesh Bhosle, Shankar Mahadevan, Ishwari, Shweta and Shraddha and reminds you of `Do re mi' from `The Sound of Music'. The album ends with the title song by Shaan, Francis, Shweta, Shraddha, Sneha and Sehar.

Shaan and Amit Kumar have been the finds of the album. And who can forget the kids Shweta, Shraddha, Ishwari, Sneha, Francis and Sehar for doing their job so wonderfully, sometimes even better than their seniors? This is a movie for children, so is the album.
