Music review of 'Love You Hamesha'

Director: Kailash Surendranath
Music: A.R. Rahman
Lyrics: Anand Bakshi

After John Mathew Mathan, who directed 'Sarfarosh', it is now the turn of another adman, Kailash Surendranath, to sit in the director's chair. `Love You Hamesha' stars Akshay Khanna, Sonali Bendre and Riya Sen.

Rahman recycles the music of `May Maadham' for this film, may be because he is busy in his collaboration with Andrew Lloyd Webber. This is the third instance of Rahman recycling the songs from a movie completely - 'Puthiya Mugam' became 'Vishwavidhaata' in Hindi and 'Doli Sajake Rakhna' became 'Jodi' in Tamil. He also used the music of the songs 'Jumbalika' and `Que Sera' from the movie 'En Swaase Katrae' for 'Takshak' and `Pukar' respectively.

The album begins with the title song 'Love You Hamesha' (`Aadi Paru Mangatha' in Tamil). Rahman uses G.V. Prakash again to start off the song, even though his voice sounds older and a bit more mature. Shweta Shetty and Sonu Nigam then take over. The song has a nice guitar and percussion score, which makes your feet itch to get up and dance.

Sadhana Sargam and Hariharan impart the ballad `Gup chup baatein' ('En mele vizhunda mazhai tuliye') enough magic to make it one of Rahman's best songs in Hindi too. Anand Bakshi 's lyrics deserve praise too:
'Gup chup baatein karne laga
Tere badan se mera badan
Jeena laga, marne laga
Chu liya maine tera badan'

Mahalaxmi Iyer is terrific in `Yaar teri bewafai' ('Minnale'). Her voice, combined with the background violin score, makes it a truly haunting song. Sonu Nigam sounds completely like the drunk he attempts to be in 'Botal tod de' ('Palghat machanukku'), which he sings with Hema Sardesai.

Substitute 'Madrase sutthi paaka poren' with 'Sone ka palang', Manorama with Ila Arun, add Udit Narayan and Kavita Paudwal, and what do you have - a lively marriage song. It is smooth sailing for Kavita Krishnamurthy in `Ek ladki thi' ('Marghazi poove').

Kailash Surendranath has it a lot easy compared to John Mathew Mathan, as Rahman's music will definitely bring in the crowds to see his maiden effort.
