Director: Kailash Surendranath
Rahman recycles the music of `May Maadham' for this film, may be because he is busy in his collaboration with Andrew Lloyd Webber. This is the third instance of Rahman recycling the songs from a movie completely - 'Puthiya Mugam' became 'Vishwavidhaata' in Hindi and 'Doli Sajake Rakhna' became 'Jodi' in Tamil. He also used the music of the songs 'Jumbalika' and `Que Sera' from the movie 'En Swaase Katrae' for 'Takshak' and `Pukar' respectively.
Sadhana Sargam and Hariharan impart the ballad `Gup chup
baatein' ('En mele vizhunda mazhai tuliye') enough magic to make it one of Rahman's best songs in Hindi too. Anand Bakshi 's lyrics deserve praise too:
Substitute 'Madrase sutthi paaka poren' with 'Sone ka palang', Manorama with Ila Arun, add Udit Narayan and Kavita Paudwal, and what do you have - a lively marriage song. It is smooth sailing for Kavita Krishnamurthy in `Ek ladki thi' ('Marghazi poove'). Kailash Surendranath has it a lot easy compared to John Mathew Mathan, as Rahman's music will definitely bring in the crowds to see his maiden effort. Venky |
