Music review of 'Albela'

Director: Deepak Sareen
Music: Jatin-Lalit
Lyrics: Sameer

'Albela' is the first movie in which Aishwarya Rai and Govinda have been paired for the first time by the ex-TV star, Deepak Sareen. This fact itself would have been inspiration enough for any composer to come up with some nice songs. But sadly this does not seem to have been enough for the composer duo. Jatin-Lalit's songs for the movie mostly comprise simple tunes, which are easy on the ears. No fancy instruments, no complex rhythms.

The title song `Pyar ka jadoo', by Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik, is the first number in the album. It is just a rehash of songs from the compser duo's earlier work `Yes Boss'. There is also an instrumental version of this song on Side `B'. Himesh Reshmmiya meets Jatin-Lalit in `Sar se sarak gayee', which is full of jhankar and drum beats. Alka sounds a little shrill in the song which she performs with Babul Supriyo.

`Kaho to zara' begins with some promise but sadly lets down the listener. If the song is worth a listen, it is only due to the good work by Kumar Sanu and Alka. 'Dil hamara hua hai' is the best song in the album. Hariharan sings the ghazal like only he can and is given able support by Alka. 'Hato tum baju', by Sonu Nigam, has a lively beat and a good trumphet score.

'Hai mera dil', by Alka and Babul Supriyo, and '`Haiya hoo kya masti', by Alka, Kumar Sanu and Udit Narayan, can be forgotten.

An eminently avoidable work of Jatin-Lalit.
