SS Music
Southern
Spice Music, a 24-hour music channel based in Chennai, has announced the
launch of 'Virtual Request' in association with Music World Entertainment Ltd,
the country's largest music retail chain.
SS Music has installed a
special kiosk at the Music World showroom at Spencer Plaza where any visitor
can use a special web cam and computer to record his or her choice of music.
This will be retrieved and played back over the SS Music Channel, after a
couple of days, in a new programme called 'Virtual Request'.
This kiosk has been installed
in the Chennai showroom and will later be extended to other cities like
Bangalore, Hyderabad and Kochi, said Bryan Oliver Peppin, Head, Programming
and Production, SS Music.
The concept could go national
later depending on listeners' responses, he said.
The channel's popular VJs,
Sriya and Suhas, announced the launch of a VJ hunt by the SS Music Channel.
This would commence shortly at Bangalore, followed by Hyderabad and Chennai,
they said.
The
VJ hunt in Chennai is likely to take place in mid-October.
Peppin said Southern Spice
was proud to pioneer this novel concept. "As a two-year-old channel, we
already have an active and involved listening audience, judging by the
response to our programmes, Phonetastic, Say to Play, Gana Bajana. Under this
concept, the listeners, so far accustomed to hearing only their names and
messages, can see their images as well."
This new programme would be
telecast for 45 minutes every day.
Subroto Chowdhury, General
Manager, Merchandising, Music World, Chennai, said his organisation was
"quite happy to be associated with the SS Music channel in this novel
venture. Music World has always seen itself as an inter-active place, and when
SS Music came up with this idea, we were only too happy to associate ourselves
with the project. One showroom in each of the four cities...Chennai, Bangalore,
Hyderabad and Kochi, will offer this facility initially. After an assessment
of the music lovers' response, this programme will go national as soon as
possible."
