CDs for babies, pregnant women

Geethanjali has announced the launch of two new audio CDs and cassettes ... one for babies and pregnant women, and the other for Sleep and Relaxation. The former was released by Dr Prathap Reddy, Chairman, Apollo Group of Hospitals, and the first copy was received by Dr Radha Rajagopalan, Senior Consultant in Pediatrics Dept of Apollo Hospitals, at a function in Chennai on June 25, 2004.

The CD on Music for Sleep and Relaxation was released by Dr Pappu Venugopala Rao, Associate Director General (Programmes) at the American Institute of Indian Studies. It was received by Preetha Reddy, Managing Director, Apollo Hospitals.

Dr T Mythili, Director, Music Therapy Department, Apollo Hospitals, said the essence of music therapy lies in its ability to act in a curative as also a restorative manner. Researchers claim that music acts on our mind before being transformed into thought and feeling and influences the lower and higher cerebral centres of the brain.

Navin of Geethanjali said music helps stimulate positive vibrations in the nervous system of the listeners and brings about a sense of mental well-being in individuals. Researchers have established that even milch animals respond positively to music, leading to higher milk output and healthy behaviour. Music therapy hence is seen as an important tool in the treatment of psychological and psychosomatic disorders, proving to be the best stress-buster even for those who should not or cannot go in for any form of physical exercises -- one excellent reason why pregnant women and young mothers need the music for healthy child formation during pregnancies and excellent, healthy behaviour of infants.

Sleep is the most natural restorative known to man, particularly those whose work schedule is both rigorous and stressful. Hence in the yesteryears, it was customary for kings and royal consorts to be treated to music both at meal time and at bedtime. In today's hectic work and even off-work schedules, the human being is subjected to enormous stress, leading to disturbed sleep patterns, Navin said. Research has established that disturbed sleep syndrome leads to reduced output of Serotonin, leading to a feeble mind. Sleep is known to re-synthesise vital substance in ttJe nervous system. Hence normal, undisturbed sleep for six to eight hours per day (depending on the individual needs) is a pre-requisite for normal and efficient functioning of any individual.
