Sanjay Subramaniam set the tone and tenor at the Anjaneyar temple,
Nanganallur, for Pavaman Annadhanam Trust, by rendering ‘Maakelara
Vicharamu’ in Ravichandrika by Tyagaraja which was packed with
swaras. His commitment to classicism was discernible in his
rendition of ‘Marivere’ in Anadha Bhairavi. The swara explosion
followed the chitta swaras which revealed his fluent flow of
manodharma.
In his sketch of Malayamarutham for ‘Hanumathe Sammikintha
Adayalam’ he brought out the contours of the raga lucidly. The
following piece ‘Neethu Charanamule’ was delectable fare. Sanjay s
succinct sketch of Simhendra Madhyamam was absorbing.
The main piece of the evening was ‘O Rangasayee’ in Kamboji by
Tyagaraja. The well-conceived alapana shone in splendour. The
neraval was like a cloud burst and was appropriately followed by a
downpour of swaras.
His rendition of ‘Narayana Nalinayatha’ in Sama followed a
viruttam.
S Varadarajan, the violinist who normally accompanies Sanjay,
responded with alacrity.
Arun Prakash on the mridangam was mellow and mature.
K V Gopalakrishnan on the kanjira had a steadfast partnership
with his fellow artistes.
Their tani was aesthetic with articulation of sollukattus.
