Kamal scores as singer

The Kamal Hassan-Ilayaraja combination again succeeds in providing a different and varied musical experience in Mumbai Express. In no way can the songs be described as routine or in the beaten track.

For instance, you have 'Monkey Chatter', which is merely instrumental music, using the Budapest Orchestra, with which Raja has a special relationship. Again 'Aila Re' is a rollicking and challenging number in which the maestro packs a catchy rhythm and yet the flavour of both Mumbai and the south.

Kamal has performed three numbers. Just as in 'Virumaandi', Kamal's role is such that his voice best suits the character he chooses to play. Which explains why he has rendered three numbers.

In keeping with the requirements of the Hindi version of the film as well, Ilayaraja has used a number of popular Mumbai-based singers like Sonu Nigam, Shaan, Shreya Goshal, Sunidhi Chouhan and so on.

Shreya Goshal has provided an exquisite number in 'Poo Poothathu'. All her numbers for Ilayaraja have been hits so far. This film is no exception. Endowed with a sweet voice, Shreya manages to put in a fair bit of effort to get the pronunciation of Tamil words right. And that is what makes her even more special.

Kamal, Sonu Nigam, Tipu and Sunidhi Chouhan rendered boisterously 'Kurangu Kaiyil Maalai', which is bound to be a hit.
