AFM presents world Jugalbandhi
Alliance Francaise of Madras (AFM) presents Jugalbandi, world music by a French group, on June 16, 2006, at 7 p.m., at the Alliance Francaise Auditorium in
Chennai.
The performing artistes are Richard Bernet, sarod; Nabankur Bhattacharya, tabla; Rico, horn; Sayon Bamba Camara, singer; Hamid Gribi, drums; Laurent Pernice, bass guitar.
All are welcome and seating will be on a first-come-first-served basis.
Jugalbandi in Sanskrit means 'linked together'.
With a singer from Guinea, an Algerian percussionist, an Indian tabla player, a sarod and esraj player, a staunch jazz follower trumpet player who is a fan of Eastern Europe and a bass guitarist originally from the electro-experimental scene, Jugalbandi lends the image of melting-pot to the city of Marseilles, the city from where the musicians come.
Singing traditional Indian and African songs, Jugalbandi claims to be the witness, messenger of the fusion of genres.
Coming from the four corners of the music planet, its members give a new meaning to the word 'multiculture' and promise to render a musically embroidered evening.
