 Listen to legends
 Vijay TV presents Legends - a musical night featuring S P Balasubramaniam and Chitra on October 31 at 11.30 a.m.
The event was held by Vijay TV at Island Grounds recently. SPB, as he is popularly known, was the voice of many great actors of the Tamil filmdom right from MGR, Sivaji Ganesan, Gemini Ganesan, Kamal Hassan, Rajnikant, Prabhu, Karthik, Vijaykant, Sarath Kumar, Parthiban, and continues to lend his voice for the younger crop of actors like Ajit, Vijay and Vikram. Along with Chitra, who was the favourite singer of music director Ilayaraja and has also presented many popular hits for the younger generation of music
composers, SPB regaled the audience with many a popular number.
 SPB and Chitra rendered many duets in their inimitable styles. SPB began with 'Pon Maalai Pozhuthu', and followed it up with hit numbers like 'Oruvan Oruvan Mudalali', 'Enna Satham Inda Neram' and many more… Chitra, with her melodious voice and smiling face, performed her chart busters like 'Paadariyen Padippariyen', 'Kannalane', 'Ovvaru Pookalumey', 'Radhai Maname', 'Unnodu Vazhnthaal' and so on.
The musical night also featured budding singers of Tamil cinema, Pop Shalini and Devan, who rendered hits like 'Ennai Konjam
Maatri', 'Gundu Gundu', 'Iruvizhi Unadhu'...
 The event also had some 'Item' numbers from Sanghavi and Alphonsa, who performed foot-tapping numbers from the movies New and Vasool Raja MBBS, though what they had to do with Legends was anybody's guess. As a rag said, perhaps they were being projected as Legends in their own right! A bit too early, one would think! The orchestra was provided by Raghuraj Chakravarthy's troupe.
The song list here wouldn't have come as a surprise. Yet, SPB and Chitra can never stale you.
For, their voices come across well, whether they sing on stage or in recording studios. That can't be said of several singers, particularly the younger generation. It's not easy to sing songs like 'Uyire' or 'Malargale Malargale' live on stage but Chitra pulled it off with aplomb.
