Trichy
Murali a stellar disciple of Trichy Thayumanavan a renowned
mridangist was recently on a musical excursion to Down Under and
its scenic neighbor New Zealand . Murali burnt the midnight oil
checking the pitch of his clay pitcher-Ghatam , the instrument
which he was going to play.
He had accompanied Flute Ramani and traversed` the two
countries. Let us peep into his rhythmic rendezvous which he
captured in a nut shell, with gusto and enthusiasm.
Barthrust a picturesque hamlet off Sydney set the tone and tenor
for a memorable tour ahead. Their concert for Spirit of India
showcased the priceless treasure –music in different dimension.
Its mesmeric locale defies description declares Murali who is
still reeling under it. The gathering enjoyed the concert and
had a ear for rhythm declares Murali who found that percussion
is appreciated and enjoyed throughout the world.
Their concert at Leura near Katumba was a niched performance. It
is a another spot where Nature is at its best quips Murali.
Situated on an elevated spot it is a pinnacle of Natural
splendor. The intermingling of nature and music is discernible
in many ways.
Music transcends barriers of time caste and creed and our music
reached to the novice and the cognoscenti confirmed Murali who
was happy to see the gathering enjoy their glowing rhythmic
patterns. It was a confluence of different genres at the Sydney
Opera House stated Murali. The renowned architectural edifice
resonated with melodic strains and delectable rhythmic inputs of
the ensemble. He was happy to perform to the crème de la crème
of the society which included bureaucrats and wives of the
Australian cricketers.
Their next leg of the tour was at Adelaide. The WOMAD festival
was the diadem of their tour. With more than 25 countries
participating it was a veritable ocean reminiscences Murali.
They proved that rhythm is indispensable to Music by engaging in
a mini percussive fest .
The Four Winds Festival at Bermague off Sydney amalgamated
various musical influences into its fold. It was a cutcheri in
greenery remarked Murali who felt that the sylvan surroundings
evoked a meditative ambience. We played in a SUN SET concert and
our tani was like a CLOUD BURST opined this globe trotter .The
audience responded with a standing ovation beamed Murali.
At New Zealand all the major cities reverberated with their
music . He made a special mention of Taranaki which is an ideal
place for the concert. The elements of Nature witnessed and
vibrantly responded by soothing showers and wafting gentle
breeze. It was a thrilling experience as we played on the
fringes of a canal with the placid waters flowing unhurriedly
and the sparkling ducks moving leisurely affirmed Murali who
felt it was smörgåsbord of rythym. In some places our culinary
skills were showcased as we prepared mouth watering delicacies
avowed Murali. He was able to assimilate the different styles as
he was able to interact with global musicians .He slips trance
into trance while recollecting about his tour.
