Carnatic music arangetram
Nityaa Venkatesan and Vidhya Venkatesan, disciples of Jayanthi Shivanandan, are to have their Carnatic music arangetram in Chennai on Sunday, June 25.
The chief guest of the function is the asthana vidwan of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam, Srikazhi R
Jayaraman.
Daughters of Radha and Venkatesan of Kuwait, the girls are all geared up for the programme to be held at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Mini Hall, No 18-22, East Mada Street, Mylapore, Chennai 600 004, at 6.02 p.m.
Guru Jayanthi Shivanandan
Popularly called Jay Shiva, she conducts Carnatic music classes for her potpourri of students from the tender age of five onwards to include mature professionals and homemakers.
A dedicated teacher, she is a member of the acclaimed Academy of Fine Arts, London, England. She encourages her students take a written and oral exam in music theory divided into various levels of skill, prowess and knowledge as grades one to six.
"I’m not teaching music, I’m sharing a divine gift," says Jay Shiva. A gift she realised she inherited from her mother, another accomplished artiste, Saraswathy Pakiarasa, who was awarded the title ‘The Nightingale of Malaysia’, and is now a citizen of the United Kingdom.
Jay Shiva completed her Sangeetha Vidwan course at the Government Carnatic College of Music, Adyar, Chennai. She was taught by renowned musicians like T M Thyagarajan and K V Narayanaswamy (vocal), and Kalpakam Swaminathan
(veenai).
Jay Shiva has been singing along with her mother since the age of 5, in many stages including national radio stations. She has also performed at the famed Beck Theatre in London in 2002 for five hours.
She has participated in many programmes in Kuwait and performed all over the world. She is president of Shivaranjani Fine Arts, Kuwait.
