Thematic audio presentation

To fulfill his mother’s dream is the sole aim of Dr T Sathishkumar of Rajalakshmi Audio, Coimbatore. A connoisseur and patron of fine arts, Rajalakshmi was involved in spreading the divine art of music. Her son, Dr Sathishkumar, is following in his mother’s footsteps to create an awareness about India’s rich heritage by arranging concerts and manufacturing CDs of eminent musicians.

CDs with thematic presentation were released at ‘Music Academy’ on December 3. Many artistes have sung in the CDs.

Listening to a selection of the songs makes one wish Dr Sathishkumar would bring out many more such CDs: Vijalakshmi Subramaniam’s ‘Sarvanandam’ presents a judicious mixture of various composers in different ragas. ‘Sarvam Brahma Mayam’ by Sadasiva Brahmendrar in Raga Maduvanthi makes us reach sublime heights on hearing it. The composition of Papanasam Sivan in Thodi, ‘Thamadhamen Swamy’, has been handled deftly by her. In ‘Bajareremanasa’, in Aberi, by Mysore Vasudevachar, she has brought out the nuances of the raga with great élan. The outpourings of Andal, Tamil mystique poetess, ‘Kuthuvillakeriya’, in Sahana, makes us visualise the contents of the pasuram easily.

The CD release function was followed by the chorus recital of Pancharatna Kritis of saint-poet Tyagaraja. The vocal artistes who participated in the goshti ganam included Sowmya, Aruna Sairam, Vijayalakshmi Subramaniam, Ranjani and Gayathri and Nithyasri.

They were accompanied by Embar Kannan on the violin, A S Ranganathan, J Vaidhyanathan and Arunprakash on the mridangam, Trichy Murali and N Guruprasad on the ghatam, B Purushottam and Sundar on the ganjira. The artistes sang in unison and the hall reverberated with the sound of music. The nectar filled lines of the bard were sung with great devotion.

The galaxy of guests at the function included N Murali (‘The Hindu’), who is also the president of the Music Academy, Dr.V V Srivatsa, renowned musicologist , secretary, Music Academy, and N Krishnaswamy, senior advocate and secretary Narada Gana Sabha.
