Rajesh and Samuel (Madhavan - Abbas) are college-mates and bitter rivals. They have their gangs, each indulging in one-upmanship. Samuel goes abroad for higher studies while Rajesh takes up a job. Rajesh, on a trip to Bangalore, comes across Reena and is smitten by her charm. To his pleasant surprise he sees her again in Chennai and tries to plan his moves to get closer to her. But there is a hitch. Reena is engaged to Rajiv from the U.S. But, all being fair in love and war, Rajesh is persuaded by his friend Chockalingam (Vivek) and grandpa Subbuni (Nagesh) to impersonate Rajiv and enter Reena's life. Rajesh gets to spend five blissful days with Reena, who reciprocates his love till Rajiv appears on the scene and Reena discovers Rajesh's duplicity. Rajesh too gets a rude shock when he discovers that Rajiv is none other than his old college rival Samuel. How the matter is resolved forms the rest of the story.
It is a debutant's work and Gautham (ad film-maker, and an apprentice to directors Rajiv Menon and G.B. Vijay) shows promise. In a stylish way he has tried to give a new look to the eternal love-triangle story. He has succeeded partly, for the film is fairly engaging. The first half is fun and frolic with Vivek largely responsible for keeping the proceedings alive. The second half could have
been trimmed a little.
Madhavan has improved his dialogue delivery and it is a role that suits him. Abbas reveals maturity, particularly in handling the later scenes. Rima is confident and has an impish charm. Harris Jairaj (Jingles composer) has scored some top-of-the-chart songs. Unfortunately their impact is marred by some unimaginative picturisation. The impact one felt on hearing them on the audio (like the melodious - 'Vaseegara…') is sadly missing in the visuals.
