Hungama
Director: Priyadarshan
Cast: Akshaye Khanna, Aftab Shivdasani, Rimi Sen, Paresh Rawal
After 'Hera Pheri' and 'Yeh Tera Ghar Yeh Mera Ghar', director Priyadarshan makes yet another comic caper in Hindi titled 'Hungama'. And this time too it's a remake of a Malayalam hit, a Mohanlal
starrer.
The script is based on a series of comic situations built up on a misunderstanding. While some are hilarious, the rest are juvenile, the director's classy touch missing. The unusual casting has Akshaye Khanna and Aftab as rivals for the affection of Rimi Sen. Performance-wise, there's not much to choose between the duo. Debutant Rimi Sen (remember the girl with Aamir in the coke ad) just about passes muster. Not surprisingly it's Paresh Rawal again, who is the scene stealer here.
Rimi Sen plays a girl desperate in need of a job, forced by circumstances to share a house
with
Aftab, the duo posing as a married couple, but always at loggerheads. Akshaye Khanne is the ambititous man, who runs a music shop and who woos Sen, circumstances making him believe that she is the daughter of the wealthy Paresh
Rawal. Sen too keeps up the pretense, gets a job at Khanna's shop, bears his advances, flitting in and out of Rawal's
bungalow to keep up the act of being his daughter. Which, of course, leads Rawal's wife to suspect that her husband has an affair with Sen. Rawal on his part seing Khanna frequenting his bungalow suspects the young man of giving his wife the glad eye. And when finally matters are put in their proper perspective, it's time to decide who Sen opts for.
