Jayabala enters the film world
He's an aeronautical engineer based in New York, a Srilankan native who shifted base to the US some years back. Jayabala takes a trip to Chennai lured by the magic world of films. For a debutant to the glamour world, he's taken charge of quite a few departments. He's the producer-director-hero-costumes designer-cinematographer and art-designer for his film.
Says Jayabala on what gave him the confidence to venture into a Tamil film: "Before I came to Chennai, I took an 'advance course' in film direction and cinematography at the New York University. Being a Tamilian I wanted to put in all my knowledge into a Tamil film. I know the returns are doubtful, and there is no security."
About his film, Jayabala confesses that his film may not be a typically commercial film. "People asked me to see films like 'Dhool' and 'Samy', but my preference is for films like 'Ethir Neechal'. Films that are simple in style and narration. Mine is not the usual love-story." Ask him about the character he portrays on the screen and the director hero replies, "I play a common man in the film. There is the romance angle too, but the hero and the heroine do not even touch each other in the film."
Jayabala admits that his films will be off beat ones which he's planning to send to film festivals abroad. "Human behaviour is practically the same all over the world, whether it's the US, Canada, or India." Armed with good script, Jayabala could complete his shooting in 30 days.
"We shot at Kuttralam using live sound. And for this I got a sound engineer from Hollywood", adds
Jayabala.
