Great Indian Outdoors (GIO) has announced their special adventure learning summer camp titled 'Kshitij' for children in the age group of 8-17 to be held in the Himalayas in May and June 2007.
'Kshitij' is an annual adventure learning programme for children in the age group of 8-17 years, designed by Great Indian Outdoors'learning division. These are unique programmes designed to enhance learning through outdoors and adventure.
In this multi-adventure summer camp, children imbibe learning through a wide variety of exciting wilderness activities such as rock climbing, rappelling, whitewater rafting, kayaking, mountain biking and trekking, in some of the most breath-taking locations in the Himalayas.
Each activity fires the children's imagination as they face up to and overcome each challenge. It encourages initiative, decision-making and leadership skills; rewards innovation and enhances self-belief besides creating responsibility towards the environment.
GIO has designed these summer programmes to foster a safe and non-competitive environment while providing opportunities to discover new interests and making new friends - the focus is to ensure that the learning experience is tangible, meaningful and capable of extending beyond the span of the
programmes.
All programmes are run under the watchful eye of highly trained instructors and facilitators, each an expert in his/her field with impeccable credentials. GIO camps are manned with an efficient staff capable of responding to the special needs of an outdoor programme like
Kshitij.
Locations of GIO camps:
-
Camp Room-on-the-Roof, CHAKARTA: The vantage location offers a panoramic view of the majestic snow-capped Himalayas. The location is unique in being not too far from Delhi (290 km), yet reasonably isolated so as to not be swarming with summer holiday-makers. Blessed with a rich variety of Himalayan flora and fauna, this is an ideal location for exploration and learning.
-
Camp Mystic River, MORI: Situated at an altitude of 1200 m, Mori is a sleepy hamlet, 140 km from Dehradun in the Uttarkashi district. This lush valley is the location for Camp Mystic River, aptly suited to cater to the entire range of activities offered by Kshitij. Quaint villages with multi-storied and multi-functional wooden houses to explore, a whole new culture and traditions to learn from, and a bevy of natural swimming pools and inviting waterfalls waiting to be discovered.
-
Camp Verdant Valley, KUND: Camp Verdant Valley is set on the banks of the divine Mandakini, located at Kund, 140 km from Hardwar. The camp is a new foray from GIO to bring you the exotic and out of the ordinary places that are in no hurry to find themselves in the bustle of populist places. The camp is an outdoorsman's delight with the possibility of indulging in a variety of activities that include trekking, rappelling and camping.
-
Camp High 5, JAYALGARH: Located on the banks of the river Alaknanda at Jayalgarh (90 km from Rishikesh). The camp is ideally located far away from any tourist destination or place of pilgrimage, yet close enough to the nearest rail head and airport as well as connected by a National Highway to make it easily accessible from New Delhi. Nestled in the Alaknanda valley, the camp offers an ideal blend of all the necessary creature comforts along with the rugged terrain that is required for high impact
programmes.
Duration of camp: 5 days and 7 days
Team GIO: GIO Team members together have a wealth of Himalayan knowledge and the experience of running outdoor learning programmes.
