AIWO - Food for Life
What: Health food
Where: 84, G N Chetty Road, (same floor as the Barista)
And 7, Rosy Tower, Nungambakkam
AIWO means ‘Love Thyself’. AIWO has opened almost a month ago along with the
Barista Coffee chains in the city. They promise that their food keeps you young and healthy.
AIWO serves a 14-course meal. Yeah, the figure is scary but each serving comes in a small bowl. And they promise that your intake per bowl does not exceed 45-55 calories. Here the dishes contain no direct sugars, minimum salt, no grains and is cooked in extra virgin olive oil. Someone said, “If the heart’s glad probably the oil is olive”.
The food is served in a pretty unusual way. The bowls move around on a conveyor belt.
As of now, the menu is fixed. You will be served Mulligatawny soup, Chick Pea Cake with Salsa, French Beans in Basil Tomato Concasse, Soy Pancake & Sun Dried Tomatoes, Wok-tossed Chinese Cabbage, Braised Tofu and Leeks, Spinach with Black Mushrooms, Cauliflower in Garlic Sauce, Soy Roti, Green Gram Lentil with slivered almonds, Ponnanganni Masiyal, Bhindi Masala, Lemon Barley with Onion Chutney and Soy Paruppu Payasam for dessert. A special complimentary preparation of egg whites is also served on request.
I must add here that you may ask for repeats of any of the dishes at no extra cost.
AIWO is in the process of devising more items to add to the menu. There are also meal plans. The meal is packed and served in specially-designed, insulated boxes. Under the Terrific 30, Fantastic 15 and Sumptuous 60, you get 30 meals for Rs 5,000 per month, 15 meals for Rs 2,900 per month and 60 meals at Rs 9,000 per month, respectively. There is free door delivery if you order more than 10 meals at a time. Lesser numbers may be picked up from the nearest AIWO. You will even get pre-paid coupons against which you may pick up the meals.
Carbonated drinks like Coca-Cola, but of course, are not available in the restaurant. Their juices are prepared in a super hygienic way. Picture this. They throw in an orange in a machine, which gets sliced into two, passes through some kind of a channel and gets squeezed of its juice. I felt that the resulting juice would be bitter or rather tangy. The man who served me assured me it wouldn’t be. So I took the chance of ordering a glass. It did have a tang and adding low cal sugar made it better. You also get fresh lime soda and a few other beverages.
Their meal costs Rs 199, inclusive of tax. Beverages extra.
AIWO promises that their food keeps you young and healthy. So why not check it out?
The restaurant is open from 12-3 p.m. and from 7-11 p.m.
