Sri Krishna Sweets enters US Congress
Sri Krishna Sweets, manufacturers of Mysurpa, has found its way to the US Congress in Washington thanks to US Congressman Frank Pallone Jr., co-founder of American Congressional Caucus on India and the Indian American Business Promotion Council, New York, that recently inaugurated its Southern Indian chapter in
Chennai.
Frank Pallone Jr., Member of the US House of Representatives from New Jersey and a leading Democratic Party leader, in his remarks at the House on September 19, 2006, paid glowing tributes to M Krishnan and M Murali of Sri Krishna Sweets for getting the Best Businessperson of the Year Award 2006 from Indian-American Business Promotion Council and Award of Excellence from Federation of Tamil Sangams of North America (Fetna) at a recently held function in Chennai attended by Tamil Nadu Governor Surjit Singh Barnala and US Consul General David T Hopper among others.
Besides the awards given to the brothers on the day of the inauguration of the Southern Indian chapter, New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine has issued a special proclamation in state capital Trenton honouring them for their commitment to corporate social responsibilities.
According to a statement from Indian American Business Promotion Council, Southern Indian chapter in Chennai, Sri Krishna Sweets has now officially entered the Congressional Record of the 109th Congressional Session now being held in Washington. Congratulating the two brothers on getting the awards, Pallone said the recognition is the culmination of the contributions that they have made in the Indian and larger communities.
Tracing the history of Sri Krishna Sweets to the members of the US Congress, he said in his speech that while maintaining uncompromising principles and ethical values, they have applied the highest standards of excellence in areas ranging from purchase to fresh delivery of products to creating a new generation of satisfied customers all of the time.
Outside of the business world, they have been well-known in their local community for the initiation of community service projects in India, most notably among them being posting of lifeguards in Chennai beaches, restoration of water bodies, preservation and
promotion of art and culture and addressing environmental issues, he added.
"As an advocate of environmental consciousness and a big admirer of Indian art and culture, I applaud their commitment. Their corporate social responsibility is worthy of emulation by Indian and American companies," Pallone said in his remarks. "I look forward to seeing Sri Krishna Sweets outlets opening in the US and commend Krishnan and Murali for their notable efforts."
Frank Pallone Jr is an American Democratic politician who has been a member of the US House of Representatives where he represents New Jersey's 6th District. Pallone was first elected to office in 1988. In 2002, he was awarded India's third highest civilian award, the Padma Bhushan, for his contributions as a founder-member of the India Caucus in the Congress. He is among the first US elected representatives to be honoured by the Indian government.
