International Chef's Day
On 20th October 2004, the International
Chef's Day, Chennai chefs belonging to the SICA, the South India Culinary Association, members of the WACS (World Association of Cooks Society, the world body of chef associations headquartered at Ireland) promoted the cause of some of the most needy and underprivileged children, under 'The Chef & Child Concept'.
The chefs raised funds for the same by hosting and promoting a special evening complete with entertainment and celebrity dinner. The chefs focussed their attention on the betterment of societal needs by associating with the Siragu Montessori School run and managed by Uma and Muthuram, two college students who have been educating destitute
and under privileged children and nurturing them as foster parents through voluntary funds in addition to providing them with nutritious food.
The ITC Chola
Sheraton, in its inimitable style, gracefully hosted a lunch for the destitute children numbering approximately 200 with a faculty of 20 on 17th October for the Children's picnic, in line with their tradition of societal and community uplift efforts.
SICA made a voluntary donation to enhance the educational levels of the under-privileged and help kick-start Siragu's dream of owning their own piece of land for proper infrastructure -- a sum of Rs 15,000 plus Rs 3,000 towards catering to their daily meal requirement. In addition, the leading hotels of the city, represented by their chefs have been contributing generously to this noble cause through financial aid.
In addition, SICA contributed Rs 3 lakh to the 'Chef and Child' project and had also organised a charity dinner for over 2,000 persons in the past.
