Decorating a child's room these days is easier than ever with the magic of borders. Once a colour palate is decided, there are endless choices that can be made and then changed, again and again. For the wallpapering-challenged, borders offer easy installation. For those who are more adventurous, a simple all-over wall pattern, like a stripe, clouds or a faux finish can take on new character as the child matures and his or her tastes change. Add a few accessories, and the room can be made new within a few hours. There are many options for decorating a child's room, from a simple border to multiple patterns and accessories. Think about how much time and money you want to invest. Will the room decoration be appropriate in five years? Will it be simple to redecorate?
There are many exciting patterns and borders, which offer the consumer choices for changing the look of a child's room. There are designs for small children and the older child, right through the teen years.
Wall-coverings, teddy bears, to endangered wild life, racecars, extreme sports and romantic pictures of children can be had. Look for borders, which include mermaids & sea fairies, angels, and children in a Victorian garden.
Interior designers are using multiple borders, at different heights to really personalize the room. Small children are short and they tend to play on the floor. Why not place the border along the baseboards where the child can see it best? Older children may want to have the border at their eye level. Place a shelf or rack of pegs low enough for the child to use and hang the border above it. If the room has a very high ceiling, place the border three-fourths of the way down the wall. The use of many patterns of the same colour has been made easier by manufacturers of
wall-coverings, allowing one pattern to be used above a border and another below.
These days, the rooms of older children have become their personal entertainment area. This is where they gather with their friends to listen to music, play or work on the computer, and watch television. The idea of the children's room as their domain has been true for decades in Scandinavian countries. The United States is just now beginning to recognize each child's need for "personal space," a place where parents must knock before entering. Even a shared room can be personalized with areas for storage and display of art or posters.
Wallpaper borders offer much to the child with his or her own tastes, whether that is racecars or magical fairies. While dragons, dinosaurs and balloons may have been fine for a five-year-old, an eight-year-old will begin to express other opinions. He wants bright colours or she wants soft ones; designs that will tell the world what he or she is about. Of course this may change the next year. But with a basic wall design, a change is as easy as a new border. A parent also has to turn a blind eye to the posters of rock stars and sports idols. Try wrapping a border around a lampshade or removing the closet door and wallpapering the interior.
