Stress at work can cause body pain
Researchers in England looked at psychological and psychosocial factors on different pain syndromes. They recruited more than 1,000 newly employed workers from 12 different fields. Participants answered questions about any low back, shoulder, wrist/forearm or knee pain that had occurred in the past month and lasted more than one day. Participants were also interviewed about their jobs including the stress level of the position. Researchers conclude stressful work conditions influence the amount of pain a person feels in their back, shoulder, arms and knees. They say this pain occurs even after only working at the position for a short time. They say it might be beneficial for employers to consider working to change the perception of the demands of a job by adding social support and job control.
