Lightweight foot from ISRO technology
ISRO said the pact for the free transfer of technology would enable the Bhagwan Mahavir Vikalanga Sahayatha Samiti, Jaipur, to produce the polyurethane foot in large quantities for the benefit of the masses, especially for the poor and the needy amputees in the country.
"The new foot has a number of advantages over the traditional Jaipur foot, the main advantage being its light weight and durability," ISRO said.
ISRO said the development of integral skin polyurethane foam was initiated about a decade ago in consultation with Dr P K Sethi who, along with his co-workers, pioneered the ankle foot prostheses, popularly known as the Jaipur foot, amongst those who have lost their legs due to different reasons.
