Azadirachta indica (Neem) 32.0%

Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) 30.7%

Feronia elephantum (Vilampazham) 11.8%

Prosopis juliflora (Velikaruvel) 10.7%

Borassus sp. (Palm) 5.9%

Others 8.9%

This data represents the result of continuous pollen monitoring conducted between April 6 and April 12. The monitoring is done by exposing adhesive coated glass cylinder in the vertical cylinder trap for a period of 24 hours, installed at a height of 15 metres in 5 different zones (Anna Nagar, Gandhi Mandapam, Royapettah, Villivakkam and Washermanpet) in the city of Chennai. The results are presented as mean of all five sites. Though the atmosphere of Chennai consists of a large number of pollen types only a few are represented in the data according to their dominance. The report shows the predominance of the pollens Azadirachta indica, Cocos nucifera, Feronia elephantum, Prosopis juliflora and Borassus sp. in that order.

The pollens of Feronia elephantum and Prosopis juliflora occupied third and fourth positions respectively in their dominance with contributions of 11.8 and 10.7%.
