Pollen Watch - Azadirachta indica continues to dominate
This data represents the result of continuous pollen monitoring conducted between April 6 and April 12. The monitoring is done by exposing adhesive coated glass cylinder in the vertical cylinder trap for a period of 24 hours, installed at a height of 15 metres in 5 different zones (Anna Nagar, Gandhi Mandapam, Royapettah, Villivakkam and Washermanpet)
The pollen grains of Azadirachta indica continue to dominate the atmosphere of Chennai with a contribution of 32%. This was closely followed by Cocos nucifera with 30.7%. The pollens of Feronia elephantum and Prosopis juliflora occupied third and fourth positions respectively in their dominance with contributions of 11.8 and 10.7%. The trees of Borassus are in the flowering period and their pollen grains are significantly seen/felt (5.9%) in the atmosphere of Chennai. The other pollen types contributed to around 8.9%. A total of 18 pollen types were recorded.
