The above data represents the result of continuous pollen monitoring conducted between June 8 and June 14. The monitoring is done by exposing adhesive coated glass cylinder in the Vertical Cylinder Trap for a period of 24 hours, installed at a height of 15 meters in 5 different zones (Anna Nagar, Gandhi Mandapam, Royapettah, Villivakkam and Washermenpet) in the city of Chennai. The results are presented as mean of all the five sites. Though the atmosphere of Chennai consists of a large number of pollen types only a few are represented in the data according to their dominance. The report shows the predominance of the pollen of Cocos nucifera, Cassia siamea, Parthenium hysterophorus, Azadirachta indica, Prosopis juliflora and Poaceae in that order.

The pollen of Cocos nucifera has been dominating the atmosphere for the past one month. Its contribution to the total was 22.2%. The second position was occupied by Cassia siamea with a contribution of 16.8%. This was followed by Parthenium hysterophorus and Azadirachta indica with contributions of 8.5% each and occupied the third position in the order of dominance. Prosopis juliflora and Poaceae contributed 7.9% and 6.4% respectively. The other pollen types contributed around 29.7%. A total of 24 pollen types were recorded.
