Ayurveda n' Allopathy

After undergoing a heart surgery, one may find difficulty in breathing and moving one’s muscles. Yoga and oil massage help in their quicker recovery.

The doctors at Frontier Lifeline (K M Cherian Hospital) have introduced this method, which was designed in collaboration with Solayil (Medimix) Punarjani.

A Kenyan woman named Elizabeth suffered from heart disease as she had high blood pressure and was also a diabetic. As suggested by her Kenyan physician, she came to Dr K M Cherian’s Frontier Lifeline Hospital in Chennai.

A bypass surgery was performed at the Frontier Lifeline (K M Cherian) Hospital. After the surgery, she felt pain in her neck, spinal chord and back.

Whenever she exhaled, it was painful for her. When brought out of ICU in just two days, she was taught simplified Pranayama exercise by which breathing may be done with ease. This was followed by oil massage to all parts of her body, except the chest. This massage was designed specifically for heart patients as per Ayurvedic system of medicine.

In this method, three types of oil, in a specific ratio, were mixed and used for massaging. For three days, respiratory training, yoga training and oil massage were given in the mornings. Elizabeth coughed lesser, after this. She was relieved of the pain and felt refreshed.

In what is claimed to be the first of its kind, the best aspects of both the Western Allopathic system and the traditional Indian medicinal system of Ayurveda were linked by Frontier Lifeline (Dr.K M Cherian) Hospital.
