The real flavour of Bengal

Think of Bengali food and the first thing that comes to mind is fish and crustaceans. But there is more to Bengali food than just mach and bhaat. Here is a festival that brings urbanites rich distinct and rare dishes to give you a taste that you never knew existed.

As part of the tradition at ITC Welcomgroup the festival continues to reveal the culinary heritage and hidden treasures of Indian cuisine. The Sagari of Chola Sheraton is holding a ten day long festival devised by food connoisseur, Arunima Gooptu, with her team of chefs from Kolkata who take to cooking like they take to a hobby.

Arunima Gooptu is one of those rare Bengali food entrepreneurs who have given India an authentic taste of Bengal. A well known name in catering circles in Kolkata, she has put the culinary traditions of both her maternal and married homes to great use, codifying and perfecting recipes to tempt our jaded palates.

Brought to Chennaiites under the aegis of ITC " Kitchens of India" banner, Sagari at Chola Sheraton brings to you Oh Kolkata! with a menu as varied and diverse as its culture.

The menu kicks off with the yummy Alur Chop a potato based starter that teases your appetite. For the non-vegetarians there is the delicious Chingri Malai curry, a prawn delicacy, Murgi Bhaja and Vetki Pathuri to name a few. For the pure vegetarian, lest they feel left out, there is Mochar Ghonto, Bhindi Bhaja and not to forget Aloo Fulgopi Dum.

A meal in Bengal is never complete without the delicious sweets. On offer at Sagari will be a choice of Bengali sweets that ranges from the very basic Rosogolla to Gokul Petha, Lancha and Sandesh

So if you're hungry, adventurous, and looking for a place to dine well, you know in which direction to head!

The Kolkata food festival is on from 26th September till 6th October.
