From April 4, the Verandah at the Taj Connemara wears a new look. In place of the usually classy looking Coffee shop is a restaurant completely rustic in form and character – bamboo stands, a thatched roof, charpois, lanterns, modaas, benches et al. Staff attired in lungis, coloured satin kurta, safa, kamarbandh and jootis; hostesses dressed in salwar kameezes, colourful chunis and jootis. Soft strains of Punjabi music in the background. The theme is unmistakably Punjabi. And if you were wondering why - the Taj Connemara is celebrating Baisakhi, the colourful harvest festival of Punjab.
According to Mr. R. Pasupathy, General Manager, Taj Connemara, “Among the various harvest festivals, Baisakhi is one of the key festivals celebrated in our hotel. Considering the popularity of Punjabi cuisine, among our guests here, a festival like Baisakhi is also an opportune event for us to showcase authentic and ethnic Punjabi cuisine. Besides showcasing the cuisine, we plan to foster the Baisakhi spirit by creating the right mood. Our ultimate objective is to give our guests a wonderful and memorable dining experience.”
Chefs Sunny and Shariff Alam have churned out a Baisakhi exclusive, mouth-watering menu. Comprising over 15 dishes including vegetarian and non-vegetarian fare, the recipes consist of the all-time Punjabi favorites like Sarson ka Saag, Makhi ki roti, Dabha Murgh, Punjabhi Kheer and Gajjar ka Halwa. The 10-day dinner festival is on until April 13, 2003 and is guaranteed to be a feast for the
taste buds.
So, come and celebrate the spirit of Baisakhi by partaking in the reverberations of fun and frolic at the Taj
Connemara.
