Onion-tomato curry

So far you have learnt how to prepare different types of rasams in an easy-to-make manner. Time to move on to other dishes.

Sometimes we are forced to rush through our cooking for various reasons. I’ll tell you how to prepare a quick onion-tomato curry at such a time.

Ingredients:

  • Onion - 2 (medium sized)

  • Tomato - minimum 1/4 kg

  • Chilli powder - 2 tbsp or to one’s requirement

  • Salt - To taste

  • Cooking oil - 50 gm

  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp

Method :

First chop the onion and tomatoes into fine pieces. Then grind them in a mixer, adding a little water. Keep the ground paste aside. Heat oil in a heavy-bottomed pan. Add the ground paste and stir well. Close it with a lid and reduce the flame to the minimum. After a few minutes, remove the lid and stir again. Within 10 minutes, the onion and tomato will become soft and tender.

Once the mixture start leaving the sides of the pan, add chilli powder, turmeric powder and salt. Stir again. Your onion-tomato curry or thokku is ready now. This is a very tasty thokku and one can eat this as a side dish with curd rice.

Potato-onion roast will also go well with this thokku. More about this next week.
