A taste of Mumbai
Azure sea, shell strings, hanging lanterns, chat - pati chaat,
Bollywood dhoom dhamaka – Mumbai’s Chowpatty area has moved in with all its famed paraphernalia to charming Chennai.
Verandah, the 24-hour coffee shop at the Taj Connemara presents a slice of life of the one of the world’s largest cities at the Mumbai street food festival. The 10-day festival, from November 7, winding up on November 16, promises to be an exciting experience of all the hustle and bustle that Chowpatty is synonymous with.
R.Pashupathy, general manager, Taj Connemara, said, “Mumbai by the beach is one of the most basic and enjoyable aspects of
life for Mumbaiikars. In savouring the tangy flavours of Mumbai’s distinctive ‘chaat’ by the beach lies the absolute essence of eating out. Through this fest, we intend to recreate this essential slice of Mumbai by presenting the popular Chowpatty area in its true colours. Going by our past experiences of positive feedback from our guests, we are very certain of an encouraging response to this fest as well.”
It is a collage of Bollywood’s most famous faces that greets guests at the entrance of Verandah. Once inside,
Bollywood continues playing its part in the various hit numbers belted out by the three-member band, Trio Rogers. The food counters look every inch, the typical food stalls that dot every nook and corner of Chowpatty. But, it is the seating area that lends the place an authentic touch. Decorated with shell strings and croquet hanging lanterns, the place is a riot of colors with fishing nets, multi
colour balloons, coconut shells and blue and white nets symbolising the azure sea and the frothy waves adorning the place.
At the food stall-like counters, it is an exciting menu spelling the tangiest of flavours and the most popular of Mumbai’s very own ‘items’ that
await guests – the renowned vada pav, pav bhajji, kantha bhajji, battata vada, gola and ragada patties among many other such absolute
favourites.
At Verandah, it is Mumbai by night and the flavours and spirit of aamchi
Mumbai!
