Jaya TV's Jackpot enters 200th episode
It's not often that a television enjoys a successful, uninterrupted run of 200 episodes.
That too with the same producer, channel, anchor and even the sponsor. Jaya TV achieved that unique distinction when its serial 'Jackpot' completed 200 episodes on Sunday, July 9, 2006, produced by Tellyzoom of K P Sunil, (Jaya TV's VP, News), with actress Kushboo as the anchor from day one, and Arogya as the main sponsor.
A delighted Jaya TV team threw a party for friends, sponsors, artistes and the media recently where a happy Kushboo said she wanted the serial to complete 500 episodes within the next three years.
Although that's a mathematical impossibility given the fact that the serial is telecast only on Sundays, one can pardon her for the exuberance.
Jaya TV's VP, Legal Affairs, Ranganathan, said the serial was extremely popular, thanks to the team work put in by the marketing, programming and other divisions.
The channel's VP, Marketing, Muraliraman, said the serial's rankings had steadily gone up, and one of the reasons for its success was Kushboo's presentation and her body language.
K P Sunil said his unit, Tellyzoom, was proud to have made such a popular serial.
In a lighter vein, he said Kushboo's cholies were also one of the reasons for the popularity of the serial! Kushboo responded by saying that great care was taken to see that the same choli was not repeated in any of the 200 episodes!
Arogya's marketing chief Nandakumar said the milk product of the company had also grown in sales with the popularity of the serial.
He was happy to note that 'Jackpot' won the reputed RAPA Award for best game in the regional language.
The 200th episode was a special edition, deviating from the usual format of Chennai versus Districts. This was a colourful contest between two teams of TV artistes.
The Small Screen Heroes team was led by Prithviraj (Babloo) with Vivek, Rishi and Sathish as members of his team. The rival team of Small Screen Heroines, led by news anchor Fatheema Babu, comprised Tharika, Pooja and Deepa Venkat.
