Brazilian Film Festival in Chennai

Film Fest

A Brazilian Film Festival was organised in Chennai by the Embassy of Brazil and Indo Cine Appreciation Forum (ICAF) from May 4 to 6 at the South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce auditorium.

Following were the films screened at the fest:

The Other Side of the Street / 2004 / 97 min/ colour / Portuguese / Thriller
Outro Lado da Rua, O 
Director - Marcos Bernstein
Synopsis
Fernanda Montenegro plays a retired woman Regina, a lonely 65-year-old who works on the neighbourhood watch for the police in Copacabana, and snooping on everybody in her neighbourhood, believes to have witnessed an ex-cop (Raul Cortez) commit a murder in the building across the street, and ends up getting involved with the suspect in a potentially dangerous chain of events that will force her to take stock of her life.

Awards: 10 wins and 4 nominations

Zico: The Life of a Brazilian Footballer / Docu / 2002 / 84 min / Portuguese

Synopsis 
As the youngest of six brothers, Arthur Antunes Coimbra could never imagine the success he would have as a soccer player when he first started to play for Flamengo. Celso Garcia, a broadcaster, was the one who took the boy to the club for the first time. It was the beginning of the career of a player who would become one of the most famous stars in Brazilian soccer.Zico is an icon of perseverance and sublimation. He is a living example of the Brazilian capacity to fight all barriers of prejudice and accomplish much more than was ever expected. This film is the story of an amazing journey.

Synopsis
A Romeo-and-Juliet kind of love affair. The difference here is what sets the two lovers apart: their soccer teams. Being a fan of Corinthians, Romeu has to fake he really likes Palmeiras, in order to gain Julieta's heart.

Where Have You Been / 2004 / 103 min / colour / Portuguese / comedy

Synopsis
Felício, an old comedian, is in decadence after his partner Mandarim's, the lover of his wife Paloma's, suicide. When he finds out his wife Paloma has died, he leaves São Paulo and heads for the faraway state of Piauí, North of Brazil, in search of a new partner. He believes that if he manages to find him, the good times will return.

Two Sons of Francisco / 2005 / 132 min / colour / Portuguese / drama 
2 Filhos de Francisco - A História de Zezé di Camargo & Luciano

Synopsis
The story of Francisco, a very simple and poor man, and his dream to see his children become country music stars, and who made all the efforts to make it happen.
