Simran back after a break

Tollywood

Simran, the long-legged beauty who disappeared from the glamour world after her marriage in 2003, is back to films with a Telugu flick 'Okka Magadu', directed by Y V S Chowdary. Her last film in Tollywood was also Y V S Chowdary's 'Seethaiah', which was a hit. "I didn't know If I would come back to films or not before my marriage, but it just happened. I have had a good break. And I don’t think I have to struggle to make a mark. I was simple and down-to-earth before marriage. I am still the same and is not that conservative. Moreover audience’ tastes and lifestyles are also changing," says the actress, hinting that the audience would love to see her on the screen. Though she made it clear that 'Okka Magadu' is her first project after marriage, when quizzed, she admitted that she was also doing a Malayalam film, 'Heart Beats'.

Balakrishna aims high

Balakrishna, who is busy with his hectic schedules for 'Okka Magadu', celebrated his 48th birthday amidst thousands of fans in Rajahmundry in Andhra Pradesh on June 10. The actor also participated in a Pulse Polio programme and distributed clothes and fruits at a local hospital and an old age home. When his fans kept raising slogans projecting Balakrishna as the future chief minister, Balakrishna maintained that he would continue to serve society. 'Okka Magadu', being directed by Y V S Chowdary, though the storyline of the film remained a guarded secret, it is learnt that the film is on the lines of Kamal Haasan’s 'Bharateeyudu' (Indian) where Balakrishna appears in a double role. And Simran dons the role of Sukanya. His daughter Brahmani’s marriage to Chandrababu Naidu’s son, Lokesh, is going to be held in the month of August. And the actor is said to be the only candidate in the race for the Rajya Sabha seat on behalf of the TDP.

Remembering the golden days

Gopichand's upcoming Lakshayam's audio was released recently at a glittering function in Hyderabad. Interestinly, Akkineni Nageswara Rao and Jamuna, who danced to the old number 'Niluvave Valu Kanula Dana...’ in 'Illarikam', as the film has its remix version, attended the function. Jagapathi Babu, who doesn’t mind making speacial appearances, is donning the role of Gopichand’s elder brother in the flick. Srivas, who entered the film industry as a camera assitant to Raghavendra Rao's 'Annamayya', is making his debut as a director with the film. Directors K Raghavendra Rao, Surender Reddy, Seenu Vytla and V V Vinayak, and producers D Rama Naidu, Nallamalupu Bujji, Bellamkonda Suresh and Pokuri Babu Rao, actress Mamta Mohandas and actors Kota Srinivasa Rao, Brahmanandam, Venu Madhav and lyricist Chandra Bose were present on the occasion.

Vijaychander's sweet gesture

Can we expect anyone to donate land, especially in view of the skyrocketing land prices and the real estate boom? But actor Vijaychander did it. If you think it is a small piece of land, you are wrong. It is 14 acres of land in the city of Hyderabad. The land will be utilised for buildiing old age homes and rehabilitation centres for orphans. Vijaychander is still in the hearts of many for his divine roles such as Jesus Christ in what can be termed as classic 'Karunamayudu', and as Shiridi Sai Baba in 'Pilisthe Palukuta'. Out of the 14 acres, two acres would go to Movie Artistes Association and two to Film Directors Association which are recognised as cultural societies. The actor announced this at a press meet attended by Akkineni Nageswara Rao, Murali Mohan, Nagababu, S V Krishna Reddy and Film Directors Association president Sagar.

Mohan Krishna's third flick

He received awards and honours and shot to fame with his very first film, 'Grahanam'. His next socio-fantasy, 'Mayabazaar', though it didn’t receive accolades as his first flick did, managed to do average business. He is director Mohan Krishna Indraganti, who is now gearing up to direct his third venture. Grapevine has it that he is soon going to direct a film with Malayali belle Meera Jasmine and Deepak of 'Sampangi' fame. As yet untitled, the film, which will commence shooting soon, is going to be produced by Rammohan Rao who was earlier with Suresh Productions.
