Sarath willing to act for free
"Actors should not allow themselves to be trapped by any image and should be willing to act in multi-starrers," said Sarath Kumar at a function recently. He added that what was needed now was scripts that were different. The actor expressed his willingness to act in multi-starrers and for free if it was a film directed by Cheran. An astrologer had predicted that he would live to be 120 years. "Then I'll be playing Bharat's grandfather," quipped Sarath. The function was the music release of the Bharat-Arun Kumar-Mallika Kapoor-starrer 'Azhagai Irukkirai Bhayamai Irukkirathu', produced by Cheran and directed by cinematographer-turned-director Vijay Milton.
High praise from Parthiban
Yet another hero who is never short of words is Parthiban. At the audio launch of the Kamal Haasan-Jyotika-starrer 'Vettayadu Vilayadu', Parthiban was one of the many industry bigwigs present. While many spoke praising Kamal, it was Parthiban's speech that grabbed everyone's attention. He said, "For most actors it was luck and hard work that saw them through...while in the case of Kamal Haasan it was talent but not luck. Otherwise, if luck had favoured him, he would have been in Hollywood, not here!" Parthiban sure has a way with words.
Prakashraj keeps busy
Prakashraj launches his films with regularity. With 'Poi' completed and to hit theatres shortly, the actor-producer has launched his new venture 'Mozhi'. With Radha Mohan of 'Azhagiya Theeye' fame as director, the film has Jyotika paired with
Prithwiraj. An exciting teaming up this. Incidentally, Prithwiraj's first Tamil film as hero, 'Parijatham', is yet to be released but the actor is already being flooded with offers.
Dhanush in remake
It's been a long time since Dhanush tasted success with half-a-dozen of his releases flopping at the box office. But 'Pudupettai' is to hit the theatres soon and is expected to break the jinx in the actor's career. Dhanush has signed yet another film. This time it's a remake of a hit Kannada film, 'Jogi', which had catapulted Kannada hero Shivrajkumar back to centrestage. The Tamil version is being produced by K R and is to be directed by choreographer Raju Sundaram, who steps into the director's shoes with this film.
Movie with a message
Films at times influence the vulnerable in the audience to emulate the characters, their actions or the situations. This time it was 'Mercury Pookkal' starring Srikanth and Meera Jasmine. Though an average film at the box office, the film has re-united an estranged couple. The couple had parted ways some days ago due to some differences. But after seeing the film where Jasmine and Srikant reconcile their differences and unite in the end, the couple too decided to give their marraige another chance. A positive
influence this.
