Kamal surprised
"I was rather surprised to find my name mentioned in the book. side by side with all the other great people mentioned in it. I felt like a passing tourist with a passport problem." This was Kamal Hassan who released the book 'The Oxford Companion to Indian Theatre' at the British Council recently. Published by the Oxford University Press, the book, priced at Rs 2,500 and edited by Ananda Lal, is touted as the first reference work embracing both rural and urban modes of Indian theatre, spanning its entire history of over 2,000 years. Tha book release was followed by a series of short skits and presentations by theatre groups like Madras Players, MTC Productions, Kattaikuttu Sangam and Koothu-P-Pattarai.

Sneha comes clean
The media goes negative about an artiste and as expected, the artiste promptly calls for a press meet. This time it was Sneha whose family, the press had said, was in search of a groom for her and that she would be quitting films. Realising that film-makers would be wary of signing her up for new films, Sneha called the press, denied what had been written and said she had no intention of marrying so early. Pleading with the press to cross-check with her before they print, the actress emphasised, "I want to do good roles like 'Autograph' and 'Partibhan Kanavu', and after marriage, you don't get very good roles." She is right.

Sharat Kumar quits
Sharat Kumar is disillusioned with the goings-on in the Artiste Association. The actor, an office-bearer of the association, had recently sent in his resignation to Vijaykanth, the president. He said he had agreed to some of the decisions taken by the association, though he was not in favour of them, only because of his concern for the unity of the association, Sharat asserted. He also added that his busy schedule as MP and also an actor had left him with very little time to work actively for the associotion. But now one hears that efforts are on to bring about a compromise, and make him withdraw his resignation.
