Sharat Kumar and director A Venkatesh team up together for a new film, titled ‘Aiye...’ The director had made his debut in Sharat-starrer ‘Mahaprabhu’ and this is the duo’s second work together.
Produced by K Partibhan and V Sekhar for their banner ‘Thiruvalluvar Kalaikoodam’, it has Sharat playing a common man with wife and kid, who is provoked by the atrocities around him to hit back at the perpetrators of injustice, and take on the might of the establishment and the unscrupulous cops.
Says director Venkatesh, “My hero is a calm and a patient guy involved in family life. But then one day he’s harassed to such an extent that he turns back and shouts at his tormentor ‘Aiye...!’ The consequences of this action turns his life upside down.”
This is the banner’s 16th film. Producer Sekhar, complimenting Sharat, says that the actor is a delight to work with, and doesn’t hesitate to take any risk to make the film better.
Sharat says that it’s going to be a big commercial film that will appeal to all audiences. “The banner plans its schedules well, and it is a more lavish production than its earlier films,” he said.
And Sharat has gone nude for a crucial scene in the film. Says he, “There is a scene of police brutality. The hero is stripped, tortured and thrown into the prison by Ashish Vidyarthy, the bad cop in the film. The hero has to fight his way out and escape from the cell. The scene lasts for about three minutes in the film. It was taken on a set at Vijaya Gardens.”
Adds Sharat, “I got convinced that it was necessary for me to go nude for the story, so I did it. There was no embarrassment, and the scene is shot very aesthetically.”
The director quips that they had to keep the Censors in mind when they shot the scene.
Yet another highlight is Sharat singing for the film, with Anuradha
Sriram.
The female lead is played by Namita, who’d played Vijaykant’s pair in
‘Engal Anna’. There is also Vadivelu, Kalabhavan Mani, Asish Vidyarthy and Ilavarasu for support.
The film has music by Srikant Deva, editing by V T Vijayan, stunts by Kanal Kannan and cinematography by Venkatesh.
